Jamaica Inn is one of our favourites; it’s a boutique resort with excellent service without being as busy or noisy as other hotels in Ocho Rios. In addition, the pristine private beach is calm and exceptionally clean. You can’t help but not relax on its grounds. It’s no wonder people return year after year.
The Hotel
The site has a private beach, croquet lawn, swimming pool and spa. The main building sits next to Reception, where the additional rooms line up facing the sea. The Cottages and beach bungalows are separated from the main building and have their own car parking space if needed.
All rooms/suites have air conditioning and wifi. Yet, there are no TVs in the rooms, a godsend to some. The excellent WIFI allows you to use your tablets or laptops to fill that gap throughout the site should you need to.
The Rooms
We have been lucky to stay in a few rooms at Jamaica Inn. Here is a little explanation of them.
The Deluxe Veranda Suite
The Deluxe Veranda Suite looks out across the lawn and beach, with easy access to reception, bar and on-site restaurant. This suite offers a double bed, an ensuite bathroom, and an additional room to store clothes, with a table for coffee and tea.
The bedroom leads to a big veranda with numerous chairs, a desk and a fridge. A table stands at the end of the veranda for views across the lawn to the beach—an excellent place to eat breakfast or an evening meal.
Beach Bungalow Suites
The beach bungalow suites are situated at the far end of the property past the cottages and have a separate beach. This area is smaller than the main beach.
These bungalows are a favourite for big groups, as they can feel like they have the beach all to themselves.
There is a lifeguard and security on this site to ensure everyone is safe and secure.
The bungalows are spacious, with a kitchen area and a sitting room. There is an outdoor seating area past the shuttered doors, and if you have arrived in a car, car parking is directed outside the bungalows.
Cottage 3 – Our favourite
Here you will find white walls and white and blue furnishings, with a sink and fridge in the main sitting area.
Outside is where this property shines. Cottage 3 has an outdoor shower next to a spacious bathroom, a plunge pool, nearly 180 degrees of ocean views, a large outdoor covered seating area, and steps down to the ocean with a rope swing in front of the main beach.
With the views and access to the crystal clear water, you forget you are staying in a boutique hotel. Yet, at any time, you can pick up the phone and order room service.
Here too, there is no TV. Yet, the views and tranquil setting help you forget the world exists.
Below is a walk-through video of cottage 3.
Location:
Jamaica Inn is located on a busy road. Although the hotel is set away, the noise from trucks and loud motorbikes can be heard occasionally. Being where it is, there is not anywhere to walk to if you want to go off-site.
Attractions close to Jamaica Inn, like Dunn’s River Falls or Dolphin Cove, are about 10-15mins away in a car.
For us, visiting Jamaica Inn is about relaxing and enjoying its offers.
Things to note:
Some of the rooms are more aged than others, and the appeal of the buildings might not fit everybody’s tastes. For instance, most rooms have shuttered doors/windows. Due to their age, they don’t always close as tightly as some people would wish, which causes the local mosquitos to come inside and visit.
Jamaica Inn does an excellent job of offering a plug-in and spray for mosquitos in every room. Nevertheless, some rooms make it easier for them to enter than others.
Yet as with most hot countries, mosquitoes are something you must manage.
The bar and restaurant are located by the reception. Depending on which room you have, you may have a little walk.
Staff
The staff here are excellent. Every member of the team is courteous, polite and helpful. A lot of places can learn from the whole team.
Security is constantly walking around the site, the grounds people always have a smile, and every team member says hello.
If you want a luxury boutique experience where you can relax and enjoy the sun, sea and sand, Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios is highly recommended.
